Klaviyo alternatives for WooCommerce
Klaviyo is the strongest ecommerce email platform on the market and the reason most stores look elsewhere is not the product, it is the invoice. Billing on profile count means a large, partly-dormant list costs you money every month whether you email it or not. These are the realistic alternatives for a WooCommerce store.
Be clear about what you would be giving up
Before the list, the honest part. Klaviyo's flow builder, template library, A/B testing, send-time optimisation and predictive analytics are genuinely ahead of the field. If those are doing real work in your business, no alternative on this page replaces them — and you should stay. Klaviyo has also added its own chat, AI agent and helpdesk products, so "I need chat as well" is no longer on its own a reason to leave.
The shortlist
PixelChat — email marketing plus the conversation layer
Best for WooCommerce stores that also want live chat and an AI agent, and want one contact record across both. Lists, segments, campaigns, a block-based template editor and automations including abandoned cart, driven by the same WordPress plugin that runs the widget. Flat per-tenant pricing, so list size does not move the bill.
Not for you if: you need SMS, A/B testing, send-time optimisation, predictive analytics or a signup form builder. Those are not built yet and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Mailchimp
Broad, familiar, and fine for straightforward newsletter sending. Weaker than Klaviyo on ecommerce-specific behavioural triggers, and it also bills on audience size — so if profile-based billing is your problem, check the numbers carefully before assuming this solves it.
Omnisend
Built specifically for ecommerce email and SMS, and generally positioned as the direct Klaviyo challenger. The closest like-for-like swap if you want to keep SMS and are only trying to reduce spend.
FluentCRM / MailPoet (self-hosted in WordPress)
Both run inside your own WordPress install, but check the licensing before you assume either escapes contact-based pricing. FluentCRM is sold as an annual per-site licence and states plainly that fees do not increase as your contact list grows. MailPoet, by contrast, does price its plans in subscriber tiers, with its free tier capped at a few hundred subscribers — so if profile-based billing is the thing you are running from, it may not be the escape it looks like.
The common trade for both is that deliverability, sending infrastructure and list hygiene become your problem. Reasonable for small lists, risky at volume without someone who understands sender reputation.
Stay on Klaviyo
Right for Shopify stores, for serious SMS programmes, for anyone using predictive segments in production, and for high-volume senders who need Klaviyo's deliverability tooling.
Migrating email is not like migrating chat
Your sending domain reputation is tied to your current provider's infrastructure. Warm up gradually, move your most engaged segment first, and keep the old account alive until a full campaign cycle has landed cleanly on the new one.
Choosing by what actually hurts
| If your real problem is… | Look at |
|---|---|
| Paying for dormant profiles | PixelChat or a self-hosted WordPress option |
| Running a separate chat tool as well | PixelChat |
| Cost, but you must keep SMS | Omnisend |
| Simple newsletters, nothing behavioural | Mailchimp |
| Small list, technical team, tight budget | FluentCRM (per-site licence) |
| Predictive analytics or A/B testing in production | Stay on Klaviyo |
A safe migration sequence
- Export lists and segments from Klaviyo as CSV, including consent timestamps and unsubscribe state.
- Import into the new platform and re-create suppression lists before you send anything at all.
- Authenticate your sending domain — SPF, DKIM and DMARC — on the new provider.
- Send to your most engaged segment first, at low volume, and watch bounces and complaints.
- Rebuild abandoned cart, then the rest of your automations.
- Increase volume over two to three weeks, then cancel the old account.
Frequently asked questions
- Why do people leave Klaviyo?
- Almost always the billing model — cost scales with stored profiles rather than with sending. Stores with large dormant lists pay for contacts they are not emailing.
- Does PixelChat do SMS like Klaviyo?
- No. PixelChat covers website chat, email and WhatsApp. There is no SMS channel and none planned in the near term.
- Will I keep my open and click history?
- No platform imports another's engagement history in a usable form. Export your reporting for the record, and expect to rebuild engagement-based segments over the first few sends on the new platform.
- Is a self-hosted WordPress mailer good enough?
- For a few thousand contacts and someone who understands sender authentication, often yes. At higher volumes the deliverability work becomes a real job, and a hosted provider is usually cheaper than the alternative.
